Karlovic was due to play Slovakia's Lukas Lacko in the first round, and his place in the draw will be taken by Philipp Petzschner of Germany.
Karlovic reached the second round of the Wimbledon Championships last month, losing out to Great Britain's Andy Murray in four sets.
