The European Vault champion defeated reigning world champion McKayla Maroney of the USA.

Izbasa took gold with an average of 15.191 for her two vaults, ahead of Maroney in silver medal position with 15.083 and Russia's Maria Paseka, who took bronze with 15.050.

Maroney, competing after aggravating a fracture in her toe earlier in the competition, scored 15.866 with a huge technically-difficult 'Amanar' vault before losing rotation on her second to sit down the Vault and score an average of 15.083 to open the door for Izbasa, the final woman to compete.
