The Eventing competition is followed by the Dressage and Jumping, starting on 2 August and 4 August respectively. In total, 200 athletes and their horses will compete across the three disciplines in an attempt to win one of six gold medals on offer.
Eventing offers the ultimate test of horse and rider across three phases; dressage illustrates the harmony between horse and rider; cross-country riding requires speed, power and nerve; and jumping calls for precision, agility and impeccable technique.
Held in Greenwich Park, the 5.7 kilometre London 2012 cross-country course and temporary arena is set against a backdrop of sweeping views looking out across the River Thames to St Paul’s Cathedral and beyond.
All entries for the Equestrian competition will be confirmed following the sport entries deadline on 9 July 2012.
At the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games, Germany topped the medal table and took home three gold medals including both the Dressage and Eventing team competitions.
