Saturday will see the London 2012 Olympic Torch Relay travel a total of 71.87 miles through 17 communities.
The first Torchbearer of the day will be Alice Kelly, 14, from Warrington, who will start with the Flame at Royal Lytham and St Anne’s Golf Club. Alice was selected for her efforts in raising £1,200 for a trip to Gambia. This will allow her to deliver a peer education programme in the community and schools in a developing country.
The last Torchbearer of the day will be Carl Tilson, 25, from Manchester, who will carry the Flame into the evening celebration in Albert Square. Carl was nominated for the work that he does for Action Duchenne, which aims to raise the profile of Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy, a condition which he suffers himself. He has raised £100,000 for charity and was last year voted Mancunian of the Year.
The evening celebration will feature a variety of entertainment staged by the London 2012 Organising Committee and the three Presenting Partners of the Torch Relay from 5pm.
The Flame will travel through the following communities on Day 36: Warton, Preston, Blackburn, Accrington, Burnley, Crawshawbooth, Reedsholme, Rawtenstall, Rochdale, Heywood, Bury, Whitefield, Prestwich, Higher Broughton and Cheetham Hill. It will be carried by 164 Torchbearers.
