The first Torchbearer to carry the Flame will be Paralympian Leon Taylor. Leon, 37, has played for the England Cerebral Palsy Football Team since 2003 and was Derby's only representative at the Beijing 2008 Paralympic Games.
Highlights of the day include Sir Cliff Richard, 71, carrying the Flame in Birmingham. Sir Cliff was nominated for his contribution to the music industry. In addition, pop band The Wanted will carry the Flame through Newton, South Staffordshire. The chart-topping band are ambassadors for Coca-Cola’s Future Flames campaign and will also headline a free open-air concert presented by Coca-Cola at Canon Hill Park in Birmingham to mark the conclusion of Day 43.
Today the Flame will travel through the following 19 communities: Derby, Burton Upon Trent, Streethay, Lichfield, Hopwas, Tamworth, Great Wyrley, Newtown, Bloxwich, Leamore, Birchills, Walsall, Willenhall, Wolverhampton, Dudley, Oldbury, West Bromwich, Smethwick and Birmingham.
The evening celebration will take place at Canon Hill Park in Birmingham.
