The 2012 programme starts with a strong Bantam Weight match-up between USA teenager Joseph Diaz Jr and Ukraine's Pavlo Ishchenko, with a bout against top-seeded Cuban Lazaro Alvarez Estrada the prize.

Another USA athlete will face a tough task in tomorrow's evening session, with Middle Weight Terrell Gausha up against Andranik Hakobyan of Armenia, who won a world silver medal in 2009.

Most of the competition's big names were handed first-round byes, with reigning Olympic champion and world number one Light Weight Vasyl Lomachenko not due to begin his campaign until next Thursday.

China's reigning Olympic Light Fly Weight champion Zou Shiming could face Cuba's Yosbany Veitia Soto in a mouthwatering second-round showdown next weekend if the Cuban wins his first-round match against Australia's Billy Ward.

Italy's Super Heavy Weight star Roberto Cammarelle must start against Ytalo Perea Castillo of Ecuador, while Magomedrasul Medzhidov, the man who won the world title last year by a single point, fights Meji Mwamba of Congo.

The women's programme, which makes an Olympic Games debut at London 2012, begins on 5 August, with action in the Fly Weight, Light Weight and Middle Weight divisions.
