Award-winning Olympic Park programme starts second year

The Olympic Delivery Authority (ODA) has started its second year of the successful ‘Construction Crew’ programme, which gives local schoolchildren the chance to be a part of the London 2012 project.

The education programme is bigger this year with 40 students from 20 local primary schools taking part. The students will see progress being made at the Olympic Park over the coming year and take part in workshops to promote leadership, responsibility and presentation skills. They are encouraged to take their new skills and knowledge back to their schools and present this information to their peers.

The success of the Construction Crew project was highlighted last week when it won the International Visual Communications Association (IVCA) ‘Experiential Campaign’ Clarion Award, for demonstrating best practice in ethical and inclusive communications.

ODA Chairman John Armitt said: ‘The project has proved an incredibly effective way for local schools to get involved with the building phase of the London 2012 Games and we are all delighted with its success. We are confident our latest Crew will find it just as rewarding and beneficial as last year’s members.

‘It’s also tremendously rewarding to see the project externally recognised through an IVCA award, which is a great credit to the Construction Crew and everyone else connected with the project.’

The Crew recently completed a two-day introductory workshop which included a trip around the Park, plus a look at the project’s first theme – the site’s history and archaeology.
