New photos showing the progress on the London 2012 Velodrome, designed to be the world’s fastest track, have been released by the Olympic Delivery Authority.

A team of more than 100 people are now working on the Velodrome site. The photos show how they have driven over 900 piles into the ground to complete the foundations for the 6,000-seat venue.

Work has also progressed on the Velodrome’s concrete base, which is now one-third complete. The venue’s first above-ground structures are due to appear in late June.

Shaun Dawson, Chief Executive of Lee Valley Regional Park Authority, which will own and operate the VeloPark after the Games, said: 'It’s thrilling for anyone involved in cycling to see the development of this beautiful building.

'The Lee Valley Regional Park Authority will ensure that this world-class venue will be well used by a variety of target groups from beginners to elite athletes, with extensive community use, outreach and sports development programmes.'

The Velodrome will host the indoor Track Cycling during the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games. A BMX circuit will be built next to the Velodrome to host the BMX events during the Olympic Games. Together they will form the London 2012 VeloPark.

After the Games, a Road Cycle circuit and Mountain Bike course will be added to the VeloPark to create a cycling hub for all ages and abilities.
