Welsh Get Set education programme launches

nullDeputy Minister for Skills John Griffiths, LOCOG Chief Executive Paul Deighton and Headteacher Tegwen Ellis check out the online Get Set education programme with pupils from Ysgol Cwnwyd Sant Primary School, Maesteg.
The website www.london2012.com/getset is targeted at 3 – 19 year olds and aims to bring schools and colleges together to highlight projects they have been involved in which reflect the spirit of the Olympic and Paralympic Games. Learning resources are flexible and include games, factsheets, films and news articles.

In Wales around 90 schools have signed up to the ‘Get Set’ and the website has been translated into Welsh.

Launching the website at Ysgol Cynwyd Sant in Maesteg, Deputy Minister for Skills John Griffiths said: 'I am pleased to be launching this website in Wales which I am sure will encourage many children and young people to take part in events and projects which reflect the Olympic and Paralympic values such as friendship, respect and determination.'
Paul Deighton, London 2012 Organising Committee Chief Executive, said: 'The London 2012 Games are Everyone’s Games and we are pleased to offer this once in a lifetime learning opportunity to Welsh speaking pupils.'

'Schools and colleges using ‘Get Set’ can now start applying to join the Get Set network and receive the London 2012 education logo from September onwards in recognition of their work.
 
'We have invited young people aged 16-21 design the graphic for the London 2012 education logo and we hope to receive some fantastic entries from Wales.

Mae’r wefan www.london2012.com/getset wedi ei thargedu at rai rhwng 3–19 oed, a’r nod yw dod ag ysgolion a cholegau ynghyd i dynnu sylw at brosiectau y maent wedi bod yn ymwneud â nhw sy’n adlewyrchu ysbryd y gemau Olympaidd a Phara-Olympaidd.  Mae’r adnoddau dysgu’n hyblyg, gan gynnwys gemau, taflenni ffeithiol, ffilmiau ac erthyglau newyddion.

Mae tua 90 ysgol yn cymryd rhan yn ‘Get Set’ yng Nghymru ac mae’r wefan wedi cael ei chyfieithu i’r Gymraeg.

Wrth lansio’r wefan yn Ysgol Cynwyd Sant ym Maesteg, dywedodd y Dirprwy Weinidog dros Sgiliau: ‘Rwyf yn hapus iawn i lansio’r wefan hon yng Nghymru ac rwy’n siŵr y bydd yn annog llawer o blant a phobl ifanc i gymryd rhan mewn digwyddiadau a phrosiectau sy’n adlewyrchu’r  gwerthoedd Olympaidd a Phara-Olympaidd, sef cyfeillgarwch, parch a phenderfyniad.’

Dywedodd Paul Deighton, Prif Weithredwr Pwyllgor Trefnu Llundain 2012: ‘Mae Gemau Llundain 2012 yn eiddo i bawb ac mae’n bleser gennym gynnig y cyfle dysgu unigryw hwn i ddisgyblion Cymraeg.’

‘Bellach gall ysgolion a cholegau sy’n defnyddio Get Set ddechrau gwneud ceisiadau i ymuno â rhwydwaith Get Set a chael logo addysg Llundain 2012 o fis Medi ymlaen i gydnabod eu gwaith.’
‘Rydym wedi gwahodd pobl ifanc rhwng 16-21 oed i ddylunio’r gwaith graffig ar gyfer logo addysg Llundain 2012. Gobeithio y byddwn yn derbyn cynigion gwych o Gymru.’
