Designs for the southern area of the Olympic ParkAfter the Games the southern part of the Park will aim to keep the festival atmosphere from the Games, with riverside gardens, markets, events, cafes and bars.
The contract will include hard and soft landscape works, tree planting and the construction of the concourse, which will run through the parklands linking venues and entrances to the Park. The work, due to start in early 2010, will also include lighting, irrigation and drainage.
In addition, the contractor will work on the London 2012 gardens that stretch for almost 1km between the Aquatics Centre and Olympic Stadium and celebrate centuries of British passion for gardens and plants.
The Olympic Delivery Authority is working with the London Development Agency to ensure the parklands fit into the Legacy Masterplan Framework - a plan for the development of the Park site after 2012 that will include the long-term management and maintenance of the parklands.
