Prime Minister Gordon Brown met site workers and toured the site of the Olympic StadiumODA Chairman John Armitt said: ‘Half way to 2012 we are right on track. We are making good progress but we are not complacent, there is still a big challenge ahead.’
Thousands of job opportunities are being created this year for professions including bricklayers, electricians and scaffolders, as well as administrative and support staff.
The workforce on the Park and Village is expected to peak at around 11,000 in 2010, with a total of around 30,000 workers expected to be employed over the different phases of the project up to 2012.
The Olympic Delivery Authority also announced it would be creating 250 new apprenticeships on the Park and Village.
John added: ‘We are delivering vital business, jobs and training opportunities in a tough time for companies and workers. Maximising apprenticeships on the Olympic Park is an important boost to this legacy.’
