Regeneration is name of the game

The work on the Olympic Park will leave a lasting change in the area with new world-class sports venues, thousands of new homes, new transport and energy infrastructure and a brand new urban park after the Games.

The ODA today published a brochure - Investing in the future - which sets out the wide range of work it is doing to benefit the area after 2012.

Speaking at the London First conference last night John said: ‘London 2012 truly will be remembered as the ‘Regeneration Games’ due to the scale of change that is being delivered.

‘75 pence of every pound we are spending is an investment in the long-term transformation of the area. As well as brand new world-class sports venues, we are delivering new open space, new energy networks, cleaning miles of waterway and building new roads and bridges, creating new transport links, thousands of new homes and education and healthcare facilities.

‘Transformational change on this scale does not happen often and the Games offer a unique opportunity to regenerate one of the most underdeveloped areas in the UK’, he added.

‘The Games are also a shot in the arm for the UK economy at this difficult time, offering jobs on the Olympic Park for the previously unemployed and millions of pounds worth of contracts for UK businesses.’
