Passengers will benefit from transport upgrades two years before the GamesOther transport projects that will be finished well before the Games include the extension of the Dockland Light Rail (DLR) service from two-car trains to a three-car train service, boosting on-board capacity by 50 per cent on the majority of the network.
New trains, platforms, lifts and bigger stations are all being added to enhance the London and UK transport system. People will also be encouraged to be more active by walking and cycling shorter journeys.
Peter Hendy, Commissioner for Transport for London said: ‘In the year ahead there are milestones in the upgrade of the Tube, the East London line and the DLR extensions to Woolwich Arsenal and Stratford International, as well as for cycling and walking. Together this will increase the capacity, reliability and security of the network so that we are ready to host the 2012 Games and meet the future needs of London.’
