Olympic Stadium begins to take shape

New images released by the Olympic Delivery Authority (ODA) show the structure of the Olympic Stadium beginning to take shape.

Construction on the Olympic StadiumMore than 100 columns have been built to support the Olympic Stadium's west and south stands
More than 100 columns, each 5m tall have already been constructed to support the podium of the Stadium’s west and south stands. This also forms the lower ground floor of the West Stand, which houses athletes’ changing rooms and other back of house facilities such as doping control and treatment rooms.

The foundations for the Stadium are also nearing completion, with more than 3,500 of the 4,000 permanent piles installed in the ground.

On the south of the Stadium site 200 concrete supports are being cast. These will support the 25,000 permanent seats in the lower level of the Stadium.

Work is also underway on the supports for one of the five bridges that span the waterways around the Stadium island site. During the Games this bridge will be one of the main ways for spectators to reach the Stadium.
