On a big screen near you

People around the UK will be able to watch the moment the Games are welcomed to London on a giant screen near them.

Olympic FlagThe moment the Olympic Flag is handed over from Beijing to London will be watched on giant screens around the UK
The event will be screened on the largest ever network of big screens - including some permanent 'live sites'.

These 'live sites' will be used to show events at the Beijing Games and act as a stage for cultural and sporting activity for the local community into the future.

Sites include Cardiff, Middlesbrough and Host Borough Waltham Forest and are funded by the National Lottery through the Olympic Lottery Distributor and London 2012 partners Lloyds TSB and BT.

Additional temporary screens will be in place in over 20 more cities to show the Visa London 2012 party on 24 August, allowing every nation and region in the UK to enjoy the event.

London 2012 Chair Sebastian Coe said: ‘Just as the nation celebrated London winning the bid, we invite the nation to celebrate the start of our four-year journey to 2012 – in whatever way they wish. This could be one of the Live Sites, a fantastic example of a project created because of London 2012, but one with a life well beyond the Games.'
