Work to build new temporary roads and bridges for construction vehicles is nearing completion.

The fourth of five temporary bridges, which measures 55 metre-long, has been lifted into place in the west of the Park. It spans the River Lea linking the VeloPark and media centre sites. 1km of temporary roads has been constructed using 5,000 tonnes of recycled materials created during the demolition of buildings on site.

ODA Director of Infrastructure Simon Wright said: ‘The acceleration of work on temporary roads and bridges is an important step towards providing a network of safe and secure routes across the Park while minimising disruption to public roads and bridges.’

The Olympic Delivery Authority will also build more than 30 permanent bridges and 20km of permanent roads in and around the Olympic Park to create an open and accessible area during and after the Games. Preparation work has already started on the first permanent bridge.
