Brackets and cables are being installed in the tunnels underneath the Olympic ParkTwo six-kilometre tunnels were completed back in June, allowing the power carried by 52 pylons sited across the Olympic Park to be moved to underground cables. Once the cabling work is completed the pylons will be taken down freeing up the Games site for the ‘big build’ starting next year.
The powerlines project is one of the ODA’s 10 major milestones that it plans to achieve by the time of the Beijing 2008 Games: power is set to be switched from the overhead pylons to the underground cables towards the end of 2008.
