The waterways around the Park after the GamesThis will help the Olympic Delivery Authority (ODA) reduce the number of lorry journeys on local roads and meet its target of transporting 50% of Park construction materials in a sustainable way.
It will also create long-term benefits for transporting heavy loads as well as opportunities for leisure boats, water taxis and floating restaurants.
David Higgins, Chief Executive of the ODA said: "Today's announcement is an important step forward in improving the waterways for 2012 and beyond.
"The new lock will enhance the water quality in the Olympic Park and help enable the much-needed regeneration of the riverwalls."
