Held at the Royal Artillery Barracks, host venue for the 2012 Shooting events, pupils from 43 local schools are taking part in activities testing both physical and mental agility, with a grand final to be held tomorrow.

A community 'Great Get Together' follows in the afternoon, with free sport taster sessions and people on hand to explain to residents how hosting the Games will regenerate the area.

Greenwich Council leader Chris Roberts said: "The three-day Sportathon at the Artillery Barracks will be the most ambitious celebration to date of our young people's sporting achievement in the run-up to the 2012 London Games.

"When the time comes, this borough will host a total of seven Olympic and Paralympic sports and the Barracks will be one of the three main arenas.

"We hope as many Greenwich residents as possible will come along on Saturday afternoon to enjoy themselves, have a chat about Council services, and see what the young athletes of the future from across this borough are capable of."
