Over 100 Pre-Games Training Camps agreed for London 2012

More than 100 Pre-Games Training Camp (PGTC) agreements have now been signed across every nation and region of the UK in preparation for London 2012.

Weymouth and Portland Sailing AcademyWeymouth and Portland Sailing Academy will be used as a Pre-Games Training Camp by at least seven nations in the countdown to London 2012.

The camps – organised through formal agreements between cities in the UK, National Olympic and Paralympic Committees (NOC/NPC) and international teams – will provide athletes with a base from which to train and acclimatise ahead of the Games.

Many partnerships between PGTC hosts and participating countries have already begun, with cities adopting their NOCs/NPCs, forging strong relations and developing exciting community engagement programmes.

For example, the British Virgin Islands NOC has developed a friendship with the village of Aston near Stevenage, while the Colombian Olympic Boxing team has already trained alongside young boxers from the Gateshead College Boxing Academy in the North East.

Seb Coe, Chair of the London 2012 Organising Committee, said: 'Training Camps are essential preparation for the London 2012 Games.

'Each facility will provide a vital service to ensure athletes can prepare for competition in 2012 while engaging their local community with sport and culture.'
