Programme announced for Globe to Globe, part of the World Shakespeare Festival

The Globe has announced full details of the programme for the eagerly anticipated Globe to Globe season, part of the World Shakespeare Festival for the London 2012 Festival.

Kicking off on 23 April 2012, Globe to Globe will form a key part of the World Shakespeare Festival taking place next summer.

The World Shakespeare Festival and Globe to Globe are funded by the National Lottery through the Olympic Lottery Distributor.

In an event of unprecedented ambition, Globe to Globe will see all of Shakespeare’s plays performed over six weeks, each in a different language and by a different international company. Highlights will include:

  • A specially formed theatre company from South Sudan, the world's youngest country, presenting their take on Cymbeline.
  • The three electrifying Henry VI plays about England’s first great civil war presented as an epic and sweeping Balkan trilogy, featuring national theatres from Serbia, Albania and Macedonia.
  • For the first time ever, a Shakespeare play performed entirely in British Sign Language. Deafinitely Theatre from London will translate the pun-riddled comedic text of Love’s Labour’s Lost.
  • One of the greatest productions of Hamlet in modern times from Lithuanian director Eimuntas Nekrošius.
  • The Merchant of Venice presented by Israeli National Theatre company Habima in Hebrew, in what will be their first ever visit to the United Kingdom.
  • Afghan theatre company Roy-e-Sabs leaving Kabul for the first time to bring a production of The Comedy of Errors to Shakespeare’s Globe.

Globe to Globe tickets start at just £5, and a series of multibuy schemes are in place, including the Yard Olympian which will allow Shakespeare fans to see all 38 productions for just £100.
