The Olympic Stadium will host the Athletics test events in May 2012.The first ever public event in the Olympic Stadium will take place on 31 March 2012 and see 5,000 runners compete on a special five-mile course around the Olympic Park.
The ballot for entry will open later this month, with people from across the UK selected at random to take part.
A National Lottery spokesperson said: 'This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to run on the track that the world’s elite athletes will compete on, against a stunning backdrop of venues which Lottery players have funded.
'Watch out for more information on the ballot launch date to make sure you’re in with a chance to grab your place in this historic event.'
The National Lottery is contributing up to £2.2 billion towards the funding of the infrastructure of the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games.
