Students' London 2012 mascot designs to become a reality after Get Set triumph

Students from across the UK have won a London 2012 design competition to create a new version of the Games mascots.

Get Set Mascot competitionCompetition winner Naasar Butt is joined by David Moorcroft, Chair of the West Midlands Legacy Group for London 2012, and Olympian Jonathan Edwards to present his design.

As a part of Get Set, the official London 2012 education programme, young people were tasked with designing Olympic mascot Wenlock or Paralympic mascot Mandeville in a way that represented their local community or region.

The students' prize for winning the competition, titled 'Get Set to make your mascot', includes the opportunity to work with a top London designer to develop their ideas into official versions of Wenlock and Mandeville. They will also be made into London 2012 pin badges, which will be available to buy from London 2012 shops in the autumn.

London 2012 Organising Committee Chair Seb Coe said: 'I'm delighted that these customisations will be used as official versions of Wenlock and Mandeville. This competition not only encouraged school children to think about what their community or region means to them, but it also showed how young people across the UK can get involved and play their part in London 2012.'

The winning students were:

  • Morgan Hand from Dixons City Academy, Yorkshire and the Humber
  • Lauren Linter from Springfield School, South East
  • Naaser Butt from St Albans Academy, West Midlands
  • Jessica Lewis from Caistor Grammar School, East Midlands
