Olympic gold medallist Jonathan Edwards, Olympic mascot Wenlock and Pineapple Dance Studios founder Debbie Moore take part in an Open Weekend class Over 1,200 sporting and cultural events are being held across the UK between 22 – 24 July as part of this year's Open Weekend, which is supported by BP, a Premier Partner of the Cultural Olympiad and longstanding supporter of arts and culture in the UK.
Over the course of the weekend, the Tate Movie film 'The Itch of the Golden Nit' will be screened at venues across the country, including at Trafalgar Square. Children can also take part in a range of film-related workshops at the iconic London landmark.
London 2012 Live Sites will also give people the chance to try interactive motion-sensor games, and will do special screenings of the Academy Award winning British film 'Chariots of Fire'.
LOCOG Chair Seb Coe said: 'For our fourth year, Open Weekend is focused on celebrating the 'one year to go' countdown to the London 2012 Games and helping communities across the country experience the best of British sporting, artistic and cultural talents up close. I’d encourage people to get involved at a local event as part of this nationwide celebration; it will be an amazing event.'
The highlights of Open Weekend 2011 include:
- Birmingham’s Jamaica Live festival, a celebration of Jamaican culture and one;
- Culture Crush Aberdeen, featuring some of Scotland’s most prestigious art organisations uniting to takeover Aberdeen;
- Search Party, an interactive treasure hunt through the urban playground of East London; and
- Beat Carnival in Belfast, a carnival picnic in the park with circus actors, live music and tumbling gymnasts.

This year's event follows the success of the past three years, in which over 2.4 million people have been involved across a series of sporting, art and cultural activites.
