Local residents have helped plant more than 200 trees and plants along The Greenway – a key cycling and walking route to the London 2012 Olympic Park.

Thousands of local people and visitors are already making the most of multi-million pound improvement works that have taken place along The Greenway, which links the Olympic Park to Victoria Park and West Ham Station. Enhancements include resurfaced and wider cycle and footpath, new signage, seating, improved access points – along with the new View Tube café and community venue.

Dozens of local residents, of all ages, from the five Host boroughs – Hackney, Newham, Tower Hamlets, Waltham Forest and Greenwich – planted willows, jasmine and gorse shrubs and Virginia creepers.

Olympic Delivery Authority Project Sponsor John Hopkins said: ‘It’s important to involve local people in the new green spaces that we are creating in and around the Olympic Park.

‘The Greenway is already becoming a real asset to the community and these trees and shrubs will make the area even more enjoyable for people, while providing new habitats for wildlife.’
