London 2012 awarded for challenging discrimination

The London Organising Committee of the Olympic and Paralympic Games (LOCOG) have been given an Employers Forum on Age (EFA) award for their work on tackling age discrimination in the work place.

LOCOG’s Attitude over age programme was launched in March 2009 with a vision to increase the proportion of older and younger people working at the organisation. Four main projects are in place to help achieve set targets: a Get Ahead school leaver programme; work placements; Trailblazers pre-Games volunteering programme; and a buddy system designed to encourage older and younger members of staff to interact.

Rachel Krys, Campaign Director at the Employers Forum on Age, commented: ‘The awards recognise the achievements of organisations that have taken a lead in challenging discrimination. It gives them the opportunity to share pioneering ways in which they have tackled prejudice and overturned outdated practices in the workplace. In addition, the event is a great way to celebrate their success as well as encourage other companies to follow their lead.’
