Alex Hartley, from the South West, will create one of the 12 winning commissions for 'Artists taking the lead'.The extraordinary projects, one for each region of England and one each in Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales, form part of the London 2012 Cultural Olympiad.
They were chosen from more than 2,000 entries, by independent panels of artists and producers. All encourage the active participation of the public and demonstrate exciting new collaborations.
They include 'Bus tops' in London, featuring special LED messages displayed on the roofs of bus stops - providing Londoners with a unique way of communicating with each other.
In Northern Ireland, composer Brian Irvine and artist John McIlduff will create 'The Nest'- an installation made up of personal possessions donated by local people that will inspire a new musical composition.
