The Olympic Delivery Authority (ODA) Health, Safety and Environment Awards 2009 were judged by an independent adjudication panel coordinated by the British Safety Council.

ODA Chairman John Armitt said: ‘Health and safety has to be at the heart of a project of this size, scale and complexity. A huge amount of progress has been achieved in the last year and, thanks to the people that these awards recognise, we have done that with safety being the number one priority.

‘But we are not complacent. The Olympic Park is one of the busiest construction sites in the UK and will continue to grow as the workforce increases to its peak in 2010. It is essential that we continue our efforts to make the Olympic Park the healthiest, safest and greenest site in the country.’

‘Worker of the Year’ was Huw Preece from south west Wales, who has been working on the pumping station and foul drainage system in the south of the Olympic Park for a year.
