This is the first MoU between the North East and a National Olympic Committee for use of the region's 20 pre-Games training camp facilities.
The Colombian team at Beijing 2008 was made up of 68 athletes and focused on Boxing, Athletics, Weightlifting and Swimming.
The announcement was made as Seb Coe visited some of the region’s top sporting facilities that feature in the London 2012 Pre-Games Training Camp (PGTC) guide.
Seb said: 'Achieving talks with the Colombian team is great news for the region. The North East has excellent sporting facilities which can help the team prepare well for their competitions at the London 2012 Games. Hosting the Colombian team can also provide the North East with a great opportunity to get involved in our plans in the run-up to the Games.'
