The limited '3 years to go' pin goes on sale on 27 JulyOnly 3,000 pieces will be available, creating a highly-collectable item. Limited edition pins from previous Games have resold to collectors for hundreds of times the original retail price, due to their rarity.
The '3 years to go' pin will only be available at a few exclusive retailers and through promotions. The remainder of the pins have already been distributed to top British athletes and officials.
Recognising the unique significance of this pin, Professor Jack Lohman, Director of the Museum of London will officially accept this piece of Olympic history into the museum’s collection at 3pm on the afternoon of 27 July. There will also be an all-day display of Olympic memorabilia in the Museum.
The Museum of London has already collected Games memorabilia such as the London 1948 Olympic Torch, the Beijing 2008 Olympic Torch, and the rare Beijing 2008 – London 2012 Handover Pins.
In future, two and one year to go countdown pins will be released to form a set. Several other new pin designs will be launched into the retail market on 1 August 2009.

The pin will be available from 27 July through the following retailers:
- Museum of London Museum Shop, and online store
- Runner’s Need (stores in Canary Wharf, Camden, Holborn, Liverpool Street and King’s Cross)
- Crest of London (Nine stores around Piccadilly, Oxford Street and Leicester Square)
