First official London 2012 toys will be ready for Christmas

The first official London 2012 toys will be ready by the end of the year, following the appointment of models and collectibles maker Hornby as an official licensee.

Hornby will create an extensive range of official London 2012 products across its Corgi, Hornby Scalextric and Airfix brands. They include:

  • A special Scalextric velodrome set
  • Corgi die-cast model vehicles, including London buses and taxis
  • Hornby models of the trains used for the 2012 Games
  • Airfix kits of the main London 2012 venues, including the Olympic Stadium

This is the first of several toys and souvenirs licences to be awarded by the London 2012 Organising Committee (LOCOG).

LOCOG Chief Executive Paul Deighton said: 'One of the most exciting things about our commercial programme is the possibilities it offers in the licensing and merchandise arena.

'We are proud to be working with a truly iconic British company, which can offer us a great range of products across its brands that will celebrate the Games in 2012 and live on for generations after as collector’s items. We welcome Hornby – and Corgi, Scalextric and Airfix – to the London 2012 family.'
