Pictures show progress at London 2012 gateway station is on track

Photos of works at Stratford Regional Station designed to improve the journeys for thousands of spectators travelling to the Olympic Park in 2012 have been released today by the Olympic Delivery Authority (ODA).

Work continues on the mezzanine entrance at Stratford Regional Station
By 2016, the number of passengers at Stratford Regional Station in the morning peak is expected to more than double. The ODA’s £100m construction project to treble capacity of the station and improve accessibility will help meet this future demand, as well as spectator demand during the Games.

Work to install two new lifts and widen platforms has already been completed. Progress on the new mezzanine entrance which is helping to increase the capacity of the station and improve passenger interchange between lines is well underway. It will be the biggest visible change to the front of the station, and will allow people leaving the Park to bypass the subways and use a new bridge to directly access the new Central line and DLR platforms for services towards London.

ODA Transport Director Hugh Sumner said: ‘The new pictures we have released today showing the progress at Stratford Station will give people a sense of what is going on behind the scenes.  Stratford Station will be completed as early as 2010 – which means that the benefits will be felt two years before the Games start.’
