The Olympic Park site'Of the 3,046 strong workforce on the Olympic Park in October 2008, 63 per cent were British and 8 per cent Irish citizens and 86 per cent are EU citizens and 14 per cent non-EU.
'London won the right to host the Games with a promise to reflect the diversity of the capital. London is a multicultural city and the area around the Olympic Park is particularly diverse. The latest Greater London Authority statistics showed that residents of the five boroughs around the Olympic site that were born outside of the UK range from between 22 per cent to 44 per cent.
'We are working hard with our contractors to recruit as many local people as is possible to ensure a tangible economic legacy in the area after the Games.
'Local people are accessing training and jobs on site through brokerage services and job centre offices in the local area. Over 300 people have been placed into work on the site in this way.
In addition, working with industry we have established a ‘Digger School’ in the north of the park to help give people the skills they need for this project and others in the future.'
