Big boost for disability sport

A new initiative has been launched to help 150 disabled Londoners work towards becoming qualified sports coaches.

BasketballParticipants at the recent London 2012 Roadshow try out Wheelchair Basketball.
Run by the London Sports Forum for Disabled People, ‘Coach-ability’ aims to increase the number of sports coaches with a disability in London, motivating more people with disabilities to take up sport and physical activity ahead of the 2012 Games.

The new project will provide disabled Londoners with more opportunities to become involved and access training facilities. These are issues which are known to be barriers for disabled people and can prevent them taking up sport.

The scheme will provide participants with:
• free coaching training over a variety of 20 sports;
• a personalised support package; and
• a mentor who will encourage them to complete their qualification and find employment will be provided for the participants of the scheme.
