Park clearance on track to meet targets

Almost a quarter of the Olympic Park site has now been cleared, with the Olympic Delivery Authority (ODA) well on track for its target of clearing the most of the site by 2008.

New aerial footage shows the progress made so far in demolishing buildings (including Eton Manor, above), removing unwanted vegetation and clearing the land.

Last month the ODA announced its 'Milestones to Beijing' with 10 key targets to reach by the Beijing Games, including clearing the majority of the site.

The next phase of demolition will start in July, when the ODA gains full possession of the Park site.

256 buildings will be demolished over nine months, with materials recycled or reused wherever possible.

ODA Director of Infrastructure and Utilities Simon Wright said: "We have been quick out of the blocks in clearing the Olympic Park and with nearly a quarter of the Park complete we are firmly on track to have most of the site cleared and cleaned by Beijing 2008.

"With 95 per cent of demolition materials being recycled or reused we are also exceeding our targets for sustainability and are well on the way to ensuring London 2012 is the greenest Games in modern times."
