London 2012 appoints Chief Medical Officer

The London 2012 Organising Committee has today announced the appointment of a Chief Medical Officer for the 2012 Games.

Dr Richard Budgett OBE will be responsible for overseeing medical and anti-doping services.

His work will range from organising medical support for athletes and spectators at all venues to carrying out anti-doping tests in association with the World Anti-Doping Agency and the International Olympic Committee.

Dr Budgett is Chairman of the British Olympic Association Medical Committee, and has attended eight Olympic Games as a doctor.

In addition to his professional expertise, Dr Budgett has an impressive sporting pedigree, winning Rowing gold with Sir Steve Redgrave in the 1984 Olympic Games in Los Angeles.

Dr Budgett said: "I am very excited about this role and honoured to be appointed to such a crucial post. London 2012 has been a wonderful stimulus for all types of health-related activity."
