Two years to go to Beijing Games

Team GB hope to achieve their best-ever placing at the 2008 Games, which will be the first significant marker of progress since the Government injected an extra £300m into sports funding in March.

British teams have achieved some notable successes this summer, including winning the Swimming European Championships at the weekend.

Britain's Judo squad recently recorded its best performance for ten years at the European Championships with four medals, including two European titles.

Simon Clegg, BOA Chief Executive said: "Signs are extremely encouraging; this year has seen some promising performances, particularly from those sports which have not historically been regularly associated with Team GB Olympic success. The future is certainly looking bright."

Preparation for the 2008 Games is on-track, with organisiners expecting to be able to start testing venues including the 'Bird's Nest' National Stadium from next year.
