Record-breaking European Championships underway

British athletes are aiming to make their mark, with Dwain Chambers, Tyrone Edgar and Mark Lewis-Francis already reaching the second round of the 100m after wins in their first heats.

British Heptathletes Kelly Sotherton and Jessica Ennis have also started well, finishing third and fourth in the 100m Hurdles ahead of defending champion Carolina Kluft.

The Championships, which attract some of the top athletes in Europe, finish on 13 August.
