GB athletes have already recorded personal bests in this morning's heats, including Wade Bennett Jackson who was the fastest 100m qualifier with a time of 10.33sec.

Former double gold medallist Harry Akines-Aryeetey also moved through to the semi-finals.

Mentored by Olympic gold medallist Kelly Holmes, Hannah England and Danielle Christmas will be looking to succeed in the 1500m and 800m.

Martin Rush, U20 team leader, told UK Athletics: "I can honestly say this is the most focused team of athletes I have travelled with during my five years as team leader.

"There is a sense of purpose amongst these youngsters that is refreshing and certainly what someone would want to see of an up and coming GB team."

Held in the 2008 Olympic Games and Paralympic Games Host City, the Championships have attracted 1451 athletes from a record 180 countries.
