The 17-year-old's victory against an older, more experienced field came despite earlier worries over fitness, with a back injury picked up in June.

Last year he was the first ever athlete to win both 100m and 200m at the World Junior Championships.

Aikines-Aryeetey declared himself delighted with the win.

He told UK Athletics: "I'm thrilled - I love China, China's been good to me - the people are nice and the scenery is great and I want to come back here in two years time for the Olympic Games.

"It just feels great to come out here and do this - I've proved I am a championship performer!"

Fifteen-year-old Asha Phillip also gave an excellent performance in the Women's 100m, finishing fourth to equal the best-ever British placing in the event.
