Speaking at the East Midlands Business Forum as part of the 2012 Roadshow, Lemley outlined measures that will ensure workers face minimum risk constructing the venues and facilities for Games-time and legacy.

Lemley also announced the appointment of Lawrence Waterman as ODA Head of Health and Safety.

Formerly Occupational Health Advisor to Heathrow Terminal 5, Waterman will be responsible for upholding the standards outlined in the new policy.

Lemley said: "The ODA Health, Safety and Environment (HS&E) Standard is a key building block to ensuring the health and safety of all workers involved in constructing the Olympic and Paralympic venues.

"We want to minimise risk for construction workers, facility users and legacy maintenance staff and make the London 2012 Games healthier and safer by design."

"But this Standard is as much about promoting health as it is about reducing risk and injury."
