Becky Lyne runs into UK top three in 800m at British Grand Prix, GatesheadLyne finished second behind Kenyan Commonwealth champion Janeth Jeptosgei in a new personal best of 1min 58.2sec.
Of UK athletes, only Kirsty Wade and double Olympic gold medallist Kelly Holmes have run faster.
Lyne said: "I knew I was running well and to get just over two minutes recently I was pleased. So to get 1.58.20 is just fantastic!"
In a thrilling Men's 100m Sprint, Jamaica's Asafa Powell ran an impressive race to equal the 9.77sec record he shares with American Justin Gatlin.
British 400m hurdler Tasha Danvers-Smith maintained her dominance of the field, winning gold in a season's best 54.85sec.
Local talent Chris Tomlinson and Nathan Morgan were beaten in the last round of the Long Jump competition by Brazilian Jade Gregorio.
Tomlinson achieved his pre-target of 8.0m and has his sights firmly set on winning the European Championships in August.
