The International Olympic Committee (IOC) will ensure the Paralympic Games take place in the same city as the Olympic Games until at least 2016.

This extends a current agreement with the International Paralympic Committee (IPC), which expires after the London 2012 Games.

Funding for the Paralympic Games will also increase, by 25 per cent for the 2014 Winter Games and 20 per cent for 2016.

Other minor changes were made to the agreement, including clarifying the roles of the IOC and IPC in the planning of the Paralympic Games.

IPC President Sir Philip Craven said: "The extension of the IOC-IPC Agreement secures the medium-term growth of the Paralympic Games and Movement and underlines the close co-operation, which the IPC and the IOC have and continue to enjoy with each other.

"The IPC is pleased that thanks to this Agreement, Paralympic athletes can, for the Paralympic Games in 2014 and 2016, now look forward to once again competing in the same city and to benefiting from the same conditions for official travel and accommodation as Olympic athletes."
