A 83rd minute header from Crouch was followed by a fabulous left-foot strike from Gerrard in final minute of full time to seal the victory.

Wayne Rooney received an enthusiastic welcome back to the pitch from the English fans, playing his first 30 minutes since breaking his foot just seven weeks.

England now face Sweden on Tuesday and will meet either Germany or Ecuador in the next round.
