Dean Macey and Sebastian Coe with Youth Games hopefuls Kathleen Daly and Ophelia ArrindellTen young potential 2012 athletes enjoyed a multi-sports masterclass given by Macey.
Over the next month, 25,000 Londoners aged 8-17 will compete in 30 different sports - including Diving, Fencing, Swimming and Trampolining in the largest youth sports event in Europe.
Sebastian Coe said: "I'm convinced that this city's historic and ongoing commitment to youth sports helped us to win the right to host the London 2012 Olympic Games and Paralympic Games.
"The overriding aim of London 2012 is to provide a lasting legacy for future generations - in health, homes, jobs and, of course, sport.
"Two of the ways in which we can achieve this aim are to foster a healthier, more active nation by inspiring a new generation to greater sporting activity and achievement - and coupling this with new world-class sports facilities at the heart of communities which need them the most."
Mayor of London Ken Livingstone said: "There would be nothing greater than, in six years time, to see a former London Youth Games competitor electrify the crowds at the London 2012 Olympic Games and Paralympic Games, as we did with javelin medalist Steve Backley."
