This is the first visit of the Coordination Commission to London since the city was awarded the Games last July.

London organising committee Chair Sebastian Coe said: "London's progress reflects the organisation's close working relationship with the IOC and the detailed planning that was carried out during the Bid."

The Commission was given progress reports on key work areas, including finance, venues, marketing and infrastructure.

They also met with key representatives of Games stakeholders the Mayor of London, Government and the British Olympic Association.

Olympic Minister Tessa Jowell talked of the importance of delivering on promises: "We made promises to the International Olympic Committee and promises to the people of the UK that we would deliver a great Games and a lasting legacy.

"We need to seize every opportunity to do this and to make the UK and the world proud," she said.

During their visit Commission will inspect venues in east London including the site of the Olympic Park.
