London 2012 Olympic Minister Tessa Jowell has met with International Olympic Committee President Jacques Rogge in Lausanne to brief him on progress.

During their hour-long meeting, the first since London was elected as Host City for the 2012 Games, Mrs Jowell updated President Rogge on the initiatives undertaken by the UK government in relation to the Olympic Games over the past months.

Commenting on the meeting, Rogge said: "Mrs Jowell and I had a very constructive meeting.

"Government support for the Olympic Games and LOCOG is absolutely vital to ensuring their success, and my meeting with Mrs Jowell left me in no doubt that the UK government is not only fully behind the London Olympic Games and its organisers, but is also enthusiastically embracing all that the Olympic Games can bring in the way they inspire individuals and society at large."

Specific updates were given over the recent senior appointments of Jack Lemley as Chair and David Higgins as Chief Executive of the Olympic Delivery Authority.

The meeting also addressed the importance of the positive sporting, social, economic and environmental legacy the Olympic Games can bring to the whole of the United Kingdom.
