London 2012's success in winning the race to stage the Olympic Games and Paralympic Games has been recognised in the New Year Honours.

Bid Chairman Seb Coe and Chief Executive Keith Mills were both knighted for their work in securing the Games for Britain.

And other London 2012 staff were also recognised, with one CBE, two OBEs and five MBEs.

Lord Coe KBE and Sir Keith welcomed the awards, on behalf of the London Organising Committee of the Olympic Games (LOCOG).

"We are both delighted and proud that members of the London 2012 team have been acknowledged in this year's New Year's Honours List," they said.

"Every member of the London 2012 team played a crucial role in taking the bid across the line in July. We are delighted that our efforts have been recognised in this way."

Mayor of London Ken Livingstone also welcomed the honours and similar accolades for members of the emergency services who dealt with the July 7 bombings, the day after the 2012 win.

"The honours reflect the work of transport and emergency service staff and the extraordinary courage and professionalism they showed on July 7, without which the toll of death and serious injury would undoubtedly have been far higher," he said.

"The honours also remind us of the monumental effort that won London the honour of hosting the 2012 Olympic Games and Paralympic Games.

"London and Londoners rose magnificently to the starkly different challenges presented by both these momentous events in the life of their city."
