London 2012 bid memorabilia has been included in a time capsule at Wembley Stadium.

The stadium hosted the 1948 Olympic Games and will be the location for the football finals in 2012.

The burial of the time capsule marks the beginning of the construction of the Wembley pitch - an important milestone in the development of the new Stadium.

London 2012 Chairman Sebastian Coe attended the ceremony along with stars including 1948 Olympian and London 2012 Amabassador Dame Mary Glen-Haig (above).

The double Olympic Gold medallist said: "Wembley Stadium means so many things to so many people and the items selected here just capture the Stadium's rich Olympic heritage alone.

"Nearly sixty years ago Wembley Stadium hosted the historic 1948 games - quite possibly the first great national celebration in Britain in the post-war years.

"This year the Stadium also played a significant part in helping bring the Games back to London with its role in the successful 2012 bid.

"The items going into the Time capsule today pay homage to these monumentous events in our sporting history and represent an acknowledgement of Wembley's role in both the 1948 Games and the London 2012 bid."

Each memento will be sealed in a special revolutionary air tight anti-oxygen sack to prevent corrosive damage, before being locked into the time capsule.
