Two of Britain's best-known fund-raising fun runners have been confirmed as the latest celebrities who will carry the Olympic Torch during its journey through London next week.

Cancer sufferer Jane Tomlinson, who has just returned from a gruelling 2,000-mile charity bike ride, and model Nell McAndrew are the latest names confirmed for the event next Saturday.

Ms McAndrew was invited after running this year's London Marathon and herself raising thousands for charity.

She said: "It is truly an honour to help carry such an important sporting symbol through London.

"I hope the flame brings lots of luck to all of the British Olympians going to Athens and that they come back with gold medals around their necks."

A spokesman for the British Olympic Association confirmed that mother-of-three Mrs Tomlinson would also be among the 140 runners on the London leg of the worldwide Torch Relay.

"Jane is one of the most popular and inspirational runners to have been brought to the public attention in recent years," he added.

"Her courage and determination in dealing with her terminal cancer diagnosis have made her a natural choice to take part in this great event."

The pair will share the honour of carrying the Olympic Flame on its first visit to London since 1948 with sports stars such as Tim Henman and Sir Roger Bannister.

The climax of its journey through London will be when Sir Steve Redgrave lights the cauldron as part of the free concert in The Mall.
